RK Extra: Take a Close Look at Jonathan Foster’s Turbo LS-Powered, Drag Week Datsun 240Z

This Datsun 240Z behind Freiburger in this free Roadkill Extra episode is not the Rotsun, the Datsun with a turbocharged 4.3-liter Chevy V6 that “never fails to fail us,” as David so eloquently puts it. Rather, this is Jonathan Foster’s totally rad HOT ROD Drag Week™ Datsun 240Z. Jonathan’s 240Z gets its power from a 427 cubic-inch LSX engine fed by a massive 91-millimeter turbo that is good for low 8-second passes at more than 150 miles per hour. Unlike the Rotsun, this Datsun also has a four-link rear suspension with a Ford 9-inch differential and a Turbo 400 automatic transmission instead of the five-speed manual.

Jonathan’s Drag Week wasn’t without some proper Roadkill-style drama. A hard landing from a huge wheelstand broke the cast-iron exhaust manifold where it meets the turbo plumbing. There’s some cool stuff on this car that is pretty unique, including a cable-drive fuel pump and a remote water-pump setup. It was all designed, along with the driveline upgrades, to increase reliability and just a bit after shooting this Roadkill Extra at the racetrack…Well, you’ll see.
