It’s not easy to cover a race that spans three states and a thousand miles. We can’t be everywhere, but the racers can! All week on the Roadkill Instagram page you’re going to be seeing first hand photos from racers participating in HOT ROD Drag Week. Freiburger and I will be posting too, but most of the shots you’ll see will be straight from the drivers and passengers in the cars.
Today we mostly saw on-the-road shots and tow rigs as racers battled thunderstorms to converge on National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio. Once the race starts though, the trailers are impounded and every mile from Monday on needs to be on car-power only. Should be good.
Along with travel shots we’ve already seen plenty of wrenching, from Matt Blasco’s Canadian Dart being retransmissioned (and used as a picnic table) to the couple outside our hotel wiring up taillights in a K-car. Rules require working street amenities like a horn and turn signals. That kind of tiny tech often trips up even the sturdiest race car.
Of course, there’s also plenty of silliness in with the wrenching, eating, and racing. You can see it all on Instagram by searching #DragWeekRK or #DragWeek. Tag us in your photos too!
